The iPhone assumes you are holding it upside-up, in portrait orientation.  It compensates for normal human error by looking for touches a bit below the button center.  So if you are not the black side player, aim your taps a bit off-center towards the black side of the game board.

The game executive will look at your cards and play a card if it is the only one you can play.  For example, if the total value of played cards is 26 and you have a Jack, 10, and 2 in your hand the game will automatically play the 2.  This is done to speed up play.  Apologies for any confusion caused!

I try to keep the count button visible by moving it to the opposite side of the starter card as the slider is dragged.  You can also employ a “low drag” technique.  After you successfully grab the slider, you can move your finger lower and out of the way as you pass it side to side.
